Background:
St Peter was first founded in Yoxall in 1695 by the will of Thomas Taylor, a well-known benefactor. He left a house in Hadley End and land in Yoxall for a schoolmaster to teach five boys. In 1714 the house was exchanged for the schoolhouse on School Green and the foundation increased to 14 boys. Later, a school building was erected behind the house and numbers greatly increased. During the 1960's a large extension was planned and built towards the end of the decade. The school buildings more than doubled in size with the creation of the new hall, kitchens, offices and a classroom block on two floors. There is a variety of lunchtime and after-school activities including sports, music and general interest clubs. These include rugby, hockey, football, netball, atheltics, gymnastics and badminton. The school aims to provide a caring, secure and well-disciplined community, which ensures that all children are valued.
