Background:
The school'serves a 'mixed' socio-economic area and demonstrates the way in which 'having high expectations in pupil achievement can produce excellent results irrespective of catchment area'. The students are encouraged to succeed through a 'structured relevant curriculum' underpinned by a 'sound moral framework' which is 'delivered effectively by dedicated teachers'. Willow's priority has been small class size for a number of years. The school has been awarded the Eco Schools Award for its work to improve the quality of the school environment and raising awareness of environmental issues in the wider community. After-school clubs and educational visits provide 'extension and enrichment opportunities'. In order to keep travel costs to a minimum for parents, the school runs a mini-bus service. Fund-raising is an 'important' part of school life and a children's hospice is supported in addition to large national charities are supported. The school is 'always looking for innovative ways' to raise funds, such as a 'bring your pet to school day' for Comic Relief 1999.
