Background:

St John's Church of England (Controlled) Primary School is a village school situated in the village of Keele, three miles west of Newcastle-under-Lyme in a rural setting. It is a co-educational day school administered by the Staffordshire County Council Education Committee. The Church maintains its influence through representation on the Governing Body and through a positive partnership of links with school activities, including School Assembly and visits to the parish church.The school was built in 1961 and has the benefit of very attractive grounds, including a good sports field. There are established environmental areas which are used for teaching purposes. In good weather the children are able to take a picnic lunch on the grass. Every child in the school is given the opportunity to play the recorder. There are busy care clubs which runs before and after school during the holidays. A variety of extra-curricular clubs cater for a wide range of needs including rugby, football, netball, art, gardening, chess etc. French is thought throughout the school. St John's is a Christian school with a multi-cultural ethos. This reflects the varied ethnicity of the children due to the proximity to Keele University.
