Background:
Situated on the Staffordshire/Stoke-on-Trent border, the school mainly serves Blythe Bridge and Meir Park, drawing in pupils from a range of backgrounds. The school is 'well equipped', with a computer in every classroom and a computer suite due to be expanded and linked to the internet this year. Academically, staff have 'high expectations'. There is a special teacher to support children with learning difficulties. Education at the school 'extends well beyond the classroom', with every class enjoying an 'outdoor education experience' or educational visit each year. The 'wide range' of sports on offer includes swimming lessons in small groups. Children are often chosen to compete against other schools in the local area, giving them 'a terrific sense of achievement'. All Key Stage 2 pupils learn the recorder and some learn an additional instrument. Parental involvement in school life is 'actively encouraged' and many parents help with fundraising through the 'very successful' Friends of Springcroft group.
