Background:
Sandford Hill Primary School was first opened in September 1970. It is situated in a 'large, urban area' on the outskirts of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The hearing impaired unit is an integral part of the school, which itself is split into two departments. The school provides a vast number of sporting opportunities 'individual' or 'team' based and develop talents and skills in individual pupils. A great emphasis is placed on sporting activities and achievements. Many individual teachers and support staff hold responsibility for extra-curricular activities. It has excellent facilities and the staff in providing extra activities for the children uses these extensively. These activities include netball, hockey, soccer, cross-country, athletics, gymnastics, rounders, French, chess and choir. Computer groups are also organised and there are a number of recorder groups. The school aims to provide a secure and stimulating environment.
