Background:
Located in the Staffordshire market town of Stone, the 'spacious' school was built in 1934 and a new block was added in 1974 when it became a middle school. It serves a widespread, varied area, with many pupils travelling by bus from outlying villages. As a result, the school community is a 'very broad and diverse' one. Facilities in this 'happy and caring' school include networked computers, two 'well-equipped' science laboratories, an art and pottery studio and a library. The grounds include a greenhouse, an all-weather sports pitch and a 'pleasant' garden, and nearby swimming and games facilities are used. The 'broad, balanced' curriculum values 'the contribution of each individual'. In Years 5 and 6, pupils are set by ability for English and mathematics, and French is also taught. Many children participate in a visit to France in Year 8, in addition to a residential field week at an Outdoor Education Centre. Recorder tuition is available to all pupils, and parents can pay for their children to learn other instruments. There is a 'strong and committed' Parent-Teacher Association.
