Our Lady and St Werburgh's Catholic Primary School is a popular one-form-entry school opened in 1967 in attractive grounds; recent addition of adventure trail and 'outdoor classroom' area; nursery for three-year-olds opened in September 2004. Wide variety of extra-curricular activities and residential visits are for older pupils. Music and sport is considered to be strengths. French is added to curriculum for junior pupils. Charity fundraising; works closely with parents and parish community. Before-school care takes place, from 7.45am; after-school care, until 6pm. Over-subscribed, with 1.8 applications per place. DfES Achievement Award (2002). 'The school is a warm, friendly school; pupils well-mannered and well-behaved. As a Catholic school, it places Christ at the heart of the community and every pupil is valued'.
