Background:

The school was built in 1971 as part of a new housing estate. There are three double mobile classrooms situated across the playground. The playing fields are 'quite extensive' and three environmental areas have been developed: a pond area, wild area and chequerboard garden. Children live in the immediate area of the school although almost 60 per cent are from out of the catchment. There is a great emphasis on 'a broad and balanced' curriculum which is 'well supported' by extra-curricular activities: football, rugby, netball, cross-country, swimming, atheletics, cricket, three gymnastic clubs, two choirs, recorder groups, flutes, orchestra, percussion and book time. All children in Year 5 attend a weeks residential outdoor education camp and school trips to Europe are arranged in holidays. The school enjoys 'close links' with the local church. There is a busy PTFA which last year 'raised over #6000'. All pupils are encouraged to 'participate fully in the life of the school'. The pupils are also encouraged to support both local and national charities.
