Background:

Westwood High School is an inclusive secondary school for boys and girls. The age range of the pupils is 13 to 18. It was founded in 1921 as a girls grammar school and became a co-educational comprehensive in 1965. There are two main buildings separated by an area of woodland. The school is situated on 10-acre site with extensive areas of woodland and playing fields. The main building is a grade two listed Gothic mansion erected in 1851. It is specialist in visual arts, with high value-added performance. At A level 49 per cent of students achieve grades A and B. The school maintains broad and balanced curriculum. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities at lunchtime and after-school, which includes football, netball, cricket, hockey, rugby, chess, debating and performing arts. This school was the first high school in Staffordshire to gain Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) Status in 2004. The school aims to provide a well-organised, stimulating and happy environment where children can develop their social and academic skills to the full. The school enables its students to achieve their full potential and become equipped to lead a successful adult life.
