Background:
Built in 1876, Stanton Primary has large grounds including a playing field and nature reserve. Although it is situated very close to Burton-on-Trent, the school looks out over farmland. Children come from a wide area around the school. There is no school hall, so physical education, dance and drama are taught in the village hall. No class has more than 25 pupils, allowing individual attention to children who need it. The headteacher has a full-time teaching commitment. The range of extra-curricular activites includes maths club, bookshop, sports club and art and craft club. In 1999 a project was started to improve the nature reserve with a millenium nature trail. Children regularly raise money for charity and recent fundraising has benefitted Farm Africa, Jeans for Genes, Readathon, local Cats Protection and Kosovo. 'At Stanton Primary we strive to meet the needs of all our children, offering a safe happy environment and a rich diversified curriculum, in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect'.
