Background:
Meir Heath is 'of above average size' and is located in a residential area. Pupils are drawn from the three villages of Meir Heath, Meir Park and Longton, and most live in private housing. The school's main building is in 'good repair' yet 'space is at a premium'. There have recently been extensions to the cloakroom areas, but neither the infant or junior section yet has a library. The school aims to provide a 'happy, welcoming and secure environment where pupils attain their full potential'. Its current aim is to 'develop literacy, assessment, provision for under-fives and social and moral development'. It offers extra-curricular clubs such as games skills, recorders, football for boys and girls, country dancing, choir, craft and discussion. Alternatively pupils often wish to continue project or art work or read, and extra rehearsals are held when practising for concerts or other school events. Charity work has raised funds for Cancer Research and North Staffordshire Hospital Children's Ward. The school is currently over-subscribed, receiving 60 applicants for 36 places.
