Background:

Fair and Oak was opened in 1968 as the successor to Rugeley Grammar School, the origins of which can be traced to a Chantry School founded in the middle ages. It is a local education authority maintained comprehensive community school for boys and girls aged between 11 and 18 years. The college is housed in purpose-built accommodation sited in an attractive location on the edge of Rugeley overlooking Cannock Chase. The main teaching block contains its eight science laboratories as well as classrooms for the mathematics, humanities and languages faculties. It also contains its hall, which is in regular use for concerts and theatrical productions. The college has invested heavily in up-to-date equipment, including interactive whiteboards and broadband internet access. It also has a traditionally offered outdoor activity to all students, including skiing, snowboarding and horse riding. The college aims to provide an environment in which students can develop lively and enquiring minds whilst acquiring knowledge and skills needed for adult life and the world of work.
